SHEET METAL AND AIR CONDITIONING CONTRACTORS' NATIONAL ASSOCIATION

providing technical guidelines for the sheet metal industry and promoting expertise of our members

Overview:

The purpose of a heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system is to establish an indoor environment where building inhabitants can live, work, and play. The indoor environment impacts the quality of life, productivity, and well being of building inhabitants. As people spend an increasing amount of time inside buildings, HVAC systems and their associated control systems are becoming more important and complex. As a result, it is imperative that the HVAC contracting firm's office and field personnel understand not just the part of the HVAC system that they normally work on but the entire system, how the various subsystems and components work, and the interrelationship between the different subsystems and components. The objective of this webinar series is to provide an overview of HVAC systems, the equipment and components that comprise them, and how they work.

Summary:

  • Session 2 concluded with a description of the operation of the familiar self-contained unitary HVAC system and the mechanical refrigeration cycle.
  • This session and the following Session 4 focus on decentralized HVAC systems for commercial and institutional facilities and the components that comprise them.
  • Central plant equipment including boilers, chillers, and cooling towers are covered along with a description of the equipment operation.
  • Webinar participants will gain a basic understanding of the purpose and operation of central heating and plant equipment in this session.
  • This session will cover Chapter V/Central Heating Equipment and Chapter VI/Central Cooling Equipment as well as parts of Chapter IX/Central HVAC Systems.

Who Should Attend:

  • HVAC contractor's office and field personnel who need a better understanding of the overall HVAC system and its operation. This includes project managers, estimators, foremen, craft workers, service personnel, and others.
